Amitabh Bachchan is a big farmer in UP now

Big 'B' is a big farmer now in Uttar Pradesh. His lingering wish to be a farmer has been ultimately granted by the Uttar Pradesh Seed Corporation, interestingly at the behest of a senior BSP functionary. The government-owned seed corporation has registered Bachchan as a farmer-member and has provided him with a hybrid seed program for his newly acquired agricultural land at Kakori, just 23 km from Lucknow.

Fortune seems to be smiling on the megastar this time after falling apart from the Samajwadi Party and reportedly Amar Singh as well. With the land controversy in Bara Banki almost behind him, a cautious Bachchan is leaving hardly any room for controversy this time. Incidentally, now he becomes eligible to buy agriculture land in Maharashtra.

The superstar has bought nearly 6 hectares (nearly 14.55 acres) of land in Muzzaffarnagar village of Kakori, famous for triggering off Independence struggle by revolutionaries like Chandrashekhar Azad, Ram Prasad Bismil and others who looted a government chest train to challenge the might of the British in 1925. Bachchan is here only to fulfill his cherished aspiration to be a farmer.

He has paid a total of Rs 3.03 crore for the agricultural land apart from a stamp duty of Rs 7.78 lakh for one portion, which has been registered so far. Registry for 2.403 hectares (5.93 acres), sold at Rs 1.55 crore, in Bachchan's name was formalised on Tuesday after the district administration completed the mutation proceedings. The deal for two other adjoining plots measuring 3.531 hectares sold for Rs 1.48 crore has been finalised.
